Just lately i have been doing my shopping online at Tesco's but have just noticed the TV adverts for both Tesco & Asda, Tesco say they promise that their prices will either "match or beat" their rivals whilst Asda say "10 % cheaper than Tesco, Sainsbury's or Morrisons" or they will give you the difference guaranteed, both say that they take own brands and special offers into account, by stating this they cannot possibly both be right so bearing in mind it is illegal to make false or misleading claims how do they get away with these claims?

It's all smoke and mirrors.
Most Super Markets are very similar, they get away with these claims, because they are not technically lies. I recently went to a new Morrisons
( they claim to be the cheapest ), in Shirley Southampton and was amazed to see the ( to me) exorbitant prices and this sent me racing back to LIDL`s, still to me the cheapest S/Market around, the next best to me is ASDA. I occasionally use Sainburys for special products. I have lived in Spain ( and on my way back in Sept. ), where LIDL`s are in almost every Shopping Centre. If you have the time and energy, you should visit three or four Stores and compare prices, then buy the products you find cheaper in each. I am a single old man and have to watch the penny`s. Each Store has its "Lost Leaders" probably invented by Tesco`s, that are meant to draw you into their Store, so be very wary of these. Best Regards Peterpiper.
I agree Peter - I shop for some things in one shop and in other stores I buy other things. Just been down to Savers for their Webbox cat food - really cheap in there at the moment.
Think the Tesco offer is just a big scam. OK, they give you a 29p token because your shopping would have been 29p cheaper in Asda! So what, you've got to go back to Tesco to redeem it and so the cycle continues. Absolute tosh!
Sainsbury do the same. Since I am rarely in the vicinity of one, the voucher is no use to me if I've just done a one-off shop.
You lot seem to have a choice of supermarkets. Here we have a Huge Tesco and a very small Morrisons. It would cost far more in travel cost than you save on 'bargains' to shop anywhere else.
I am lucky - I have within walking distance of home a Morrisons (just over the road), rubbish small ASDA, small Coop, M&S, and Farm Foods. Tesco Metro is up the hill 4 miles away, I go there once a month to use my vouchers and money off coupons on a big shop. Waitrose is near where I work, and Sainsbury a few miles away.
We have a co-op, lidl, tesco, morrisons, aldi, sainsbury, asda, all within a short car trip.
Yes , as I said for me the nearest Sainsburys, Asda , Lidl or large Morrisons are all a 25 to 30 mile round trip away so that costs about £5 in fuel .
