A question for all you experienced Ebay sellers out in AB land.

What is the best day and time to list items to get maximum interest in the items? Does this change for different types of items?

I really appreciate any answers from personal experiences of selling on Ebay.

Sunday afternoon is definitely the best time to have your auction end. Whenever I list items I always time my auctions so they'll end at 5.00pm on a Sunday. As others have said, this is the time of the week when there are more likely to be a lot more potential bidders/buyers on eBay.

Doesn't make much of a difference, I guess the peak time will be over a weekend. But like I said it doesn't make much of a difference as I think (imo- anyway) that stuff on the first couple of pages only really get looked at and bidded (that a word?) on, so the last few hours is crucial.

Just re-read my question after reading Boo's answer (thanks Boo)

What I really want to know is when is the best day/time for an auction to end to get maximum interest? (e.g. Sat 7.30pm).
Sunday afternoon or evening, so people who don't use snipe will be able to bid.
I find that things which end during the afternoon, any time up until about 9pm, do best. Early morning listings are rubbish. I nearly always list for 10 days, to make sure that I get a weekend in - there's definitely more watching going on at weekends.
Probably a Sunday when most people are at home. I usually forget and it gets left to chance! Lol.. I don't think it matters though, especially since a lot of people can access eBay from their phone/ipad etc....
I find it does matter - if people are at work, they are less likely to be on eBay. I definitely get more interest in the afternoons/early evenings - my last 3 sales finished around 915 pm.

Hello Andrew

:-)
Sunday afternoon is definitely the best time to have your auction end. Whenever I list items I always time my auctions so they'll end at 5.00pm on a Sunday. As others have said, this is the time of the week when there are more likely to be a lot more potential bidders/buyers on eBay.
Finish on a Saturday or Sunday early evening.
Go for about 9 pm. when the punters have had a few drinks, usually a saturday night, as most buyers are not the sort to go out much and bidding at the last minute becomes a challange for them.
My rule of thumb is to always start the auction, be it five days or a week, so that it ends around midday on a Sunday. That is because any winning bidder is then able to make an appointment to pick up the item or make delivery arrangements with you that is not late at night or during most peoples working day.
Saturday and Sunday best days. I sell all over the world but more to USA and the Far East so I have to think of what time it is in USA China etc. For UK sales definately avoid the 'wee small hours' for a listing to end, very few people about then.
Time it to end on a Friday or Saturday night when people are langered and bidding on anything that moves. Beware though that when sober they may not remeber bidding and as a result not pay.
Actually that would be a good phishing scenario, e-mailing loads of young blokes on a Sunday morning demanding payment for purchases made during a drunken stupour the night before. I'm off to do this now to finance a new Bentley.

Many thanks for all your answers. I like the idea of targeting people who have already had a few drinks by auction end time.
Funnily enough, I remember reading something a few years ago about a guy who went home drunk and bidded and paid something like 50 quid for a rusty old screw (I think eBay have since tightened their rules on listing such items). Fortunately for the seller, when the bidder/buyer was sober he did say he would honour the purchase and still go through with the transaction but it had learnt him a lesson to steer well clear of eBay while he was drunk.
I'd say ending on a Saturday night. The amount of times I've bought stuff I didn't really need because I've had a couple of drinks and it's ending soon so I bid....
Sunday afternoon /evening, go for a 10 day listing so that you cover 2 weekends and opt for worldwide or at least european (some eastern european countries are best avoided) delivery so as to get a big potential market. Don't go for pickup only as you restrict your market to a tiny percentage. I have been watching classical guitars and I would say that 'pickup only' sales get about half the price of guitars available to Europe. Remember foreign buyers are prepared to pay more postage otherwise they wouldn't be looking. Do not worry about items being damaged as you can offer insurance (at buyer's expense) and if the buyer decides not to go for it then it is his/her risk. I have sold 2 expensive items (from UK)on ebay and both went to europeean buyers who easily outbid IK buyers. Hope this helps.
for IK read UK. I don't think people in Pubs getting pi$$ed spend much time on ebay. I rarely bid on a sunday afternoon /evening as there are too many people not at the pub and sober to bid against.
10 Day listing. List your Items on a Thursday. Thursday's are always good and you get 2 weekends as well
