Can anybody give me an idea of the cost involved in shortening suit jacket [lined] sleeves. I appreciate it will very from place to place, but what would be a typical figure?

I got jacket sleeves done and they cost me £10

This Bath-based tailor quotes £27 to £35 (or £50 if you want the sleeves shortened from the shoulders):
