This coming weekend is the 50th Anniversary of the EU. Is where you live having a street party in celebration?

Er.... no
By my reckoning the EU ( la Treaty of Maastricht coming into force) is only 13+ years old.

The EEC (which the UK joined in 1973) on the other hand...

The Treaty of Maastricht was 15 years old on 7th February 2007.

The Treaty of Rome that established the EEC is 50 years old on 25th March 2007.

I think I'll stay in bed.
The Treaty of Maastricht was signed 7th Feb 1992 but did not come into force until 1st Nov 1993.

The Treaty of Rome was signed 25th Mar 1957 but did not come into force until 1st Jan 1958.
You're having a bubble aren't you?
If it's anything to do with the crap we put up with from Europe, I thing it should be a day of Mourning.
