Hi, everyone.
Heres my story, i had an accident at work 10 years ago when i was 20. My GP mis-diagnosed it as a slipped disc until september 09 when i had an MRI scan at hospital as my back got worse. I have two prolasped discs, muscle and nerve damage, and a siatic nerve, ALL proven.
I have been registered as a disabled person as my condition is perminate and even have a blue badge because i get problems. i am also in my fifth month of physio, take upto 12 tablets per day and i had a spinal epijural (all temp measures). I have had to reduce my working hours from full time to part time on medical grounds so i can keep my job and still pay my mortgage. my wife works full time on minimum wage. i have tried for industrial injuries and am still waiting to hear, but dla have turned me down, income support wont help and the benefit helpline guy (off the record) said as i WANT to work even part time i wouldnt get much, if any help. However if i quit work i would have to fight the system to get help anyway. At the same time i see the likes of choudrey (muslim guy wanted protest through wootton bassett) on 30K per year, his four best mates on roughly the same and abu hamza's 32 person family costing how many millions per year. Anybody got any ideas on what i can do?
Thanks

it sounds like you may have exhausted your options, but you can check here.. http://www.turn2us.org.uk/benefits_search.aspx

best of luck.
Who is your MP? My mum applied for AA on six separate occasions and was turned down each time. After the last one I got in touch with our MP and within a week the decision had been reversed and she got a lump sum as well. This was a good few years ago and we had a great MP. But it's worth a try.
Depending on the circumstances of your accident at work, you might still be able to put in a employer's liability claim to the company you were were working for when you had the accident. There is a statute of limitations which means you have to claim within three years, but when I worked in insurance there was a clause which said "three years of the accident or when you first became aware of the condition" which from what you say seems to be September 2009. If this is a possibility then you need to seek legal advice, an EL claim made by a solicitor may have more success than one made by an individual as they know the ins and outs of the process. I've not worked in this field for some time though so others may be able to tell you more up to date info about the 3-year rule.
it sounds like you dont qualify for these benefits, or you are filling in the forms wrong You need to need help with personal care or be unable or virtually unable to walk to get DLA and if you dont fall into that ccategory, you just don't i suppose.

Hi, thanks for your responses. I have now receieved a letter to goto a medical for industrial injuries at the end of the month, so hopefully i might get some much needed finanical help. I am trying the turn 2 us website (thanks sara3), i will give it a try. As for Mp's help my mp has just changed so i will get his details and contact him (thanks kathyan). i hope i get something soon. thanks also to boxtops and bednobs.
i used to help people fill in dla forms as part of my job. People have a tendancy to not give enough info or not give an accurate representation of how life really is for them - you must fill it in as if you are talkig about your worst day

I'm having the exact same problems at the moment with DLA. I've found some good advice and support from the BBC Ouch! website. There are a lot of well informed disabled people who can give you great info on who to contact etc.

Good luck

Hi UPDATE
i had a medical, but industrial injuries turned me down claiming i had no loss of faculty meaning it hasnt effected me physically, which is complete rubbish as i even have medical reports from my previous employer woolworths going over the 9 years i was there. i have appealed and now have to go to a indepedant tribunal to prove my case, with my union rep. as for dla i didnt know about claiming as worse day so i am reappling. i have put how bad it was before my epijural and thankfully will be getting a report from my specialist pre-injection. hopefully i can get the financial help that i am entitled to. Thanks all
