I noticed a white powdery substance breaking up and coming off a tag on a computer lead .

The white powedery bits is coming away leaving a transparent plastic behind .

Originally , the tag was all white to look at

What is the white powdery stuff likely to be ?

If you keep a supermarket carrier bag unused for a number of months it also self destructs to a white powder. Maybe the tag was made of something similar.

its there to help the sleeve slide on more easily in manufacturing process and the plastics just holds everything together
