i am making a compensation claim on royal mail for losing an item i posted by 'signed for' delivery. they ask if the item has intrinsic value...... what does this mean? the item was a wax cast of a piece of jewellery. so no value to the wax, but alot of time taken to make it.

The intrinsic value means a quantifiable value - for example if it was a watch, you could advise the cost of relacement with a similar value.

This to distinguish from sentemental value, which obviously cannot be quantified.

ideally, you should make a claim based on the cost of the materials, and the time taken to make it - say 10 per hour, and calculate from there - then add some on because this is what trhey will pay out, if negligence on their part is acknowledged.
