It depends on the type of cancer. Orange peel nipples is one sign, lumps and discolouring is another and obviously pain.
If you are at all worried see your GP soonest.

Symptoms of advanced breast cancer are:

Irritated or itchy breasts
Change in breast color
Increase in breast size or shape
Changes in touch
Peeling or flaking of the nipple skin
A breast lump or thickening
Redness or pitting of the breast skin
Early warning signs of breast cancer are:

Skin changes, such as swelling, redness
An increase in size or change in shape
Changes in the appearance (one or both nipples)
Nipple discharge other than breast milk
General pain in any part of the breast

Symptoms for Male breast cancer:

Lumps in the breast, usually painless
Thickening of the breast
Changes to the nipple or breast skin
Discharge of fluid from the nipples
