The high-power pumps can empty the reservoir in four months and consume large amounts of energy. A hundred pipes could empty it quicker and cost little.

The answer's simple. Move the problem to the London area, it'll be solved in a week.

Where would they put the water they would waste ?
Anyway, 4 months. Surely they can't wait that long to sort it ?
Apparently it is filling up as they are emptying it.
They will need to find a huge, convenient hole to put the siphoned water into.
I was listening to the news earlier and they are trying to build a dam to prevent further water getting into the reservoir as they are already pumping/syphoning the water out.
what are we talking about? link?

I think TTT is just being pedantic.

It will be dreadful of that dam does burst.

OG i don't know every item that's in the news. First I've heard of this issue.
All they need do is dig a large hole and put the water in it.......... -
TTT - if you concentrated on real current affairs instead of being rude about Remainers and the LibDems, you could be a happier and nicer person.
thanks for the advice
TTT - maybe you could consider taking the advice?
I will, thanks I've seen the light, you have succeeded where others have failed, well done.
TTT - sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

Perhaps the answers asking where would the water go or saying they'd need a large hole were joking: pipes draped over the good part of the spillway would of course have siphoned water onto - the spillway!
Rev.Green. The spillway had a whacking great hole in it.More water on it would have caused more damage.

Hi Danny, The damage is confined to one end, hence "good part" in my answer.
It occurred to me that a spillway is unlikely to be expected to drain a whole reservoir, just the excess. Still has to go somewhere without making a village into marshland. But good luck to them if they find a way. Having stated that, the clay/soil foundation seems fine. Unsure much draining is useful.
