We lived up to 2019 so far.
122 has reportedly been achieved already - I would say that there will be an increase in those over 100 gradually but for the majority death will come sooner.
There was an excellent article about this recently on the BBC Future website:
http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20170928-anti-ageing-is-it-possible-and-would-we-want-it
No. Cancer ( a modern day scourge) will kill them
it's possible. At present our bodies tick over nicely until we're in our 30s or 40s: you scratch yourself, you heal. Then your genes start to lose interest in you, assuming you've already had kids and passed the genes themselves on. More things go wrong and take longer to get right; you start to run down.

But if gerontologists could find the switch that seems to turn genes off like that, and switch it back on, then we could in theory go on much longer.

I'm not sure I want to be on a planet full of 150-year-olds, though, even if I'm one of them.
There’d still be young people around, jno. I’m not sure there’ll be enough space or resources for everyone though.
An idea not to be sniffed at.
in octal? certainly, decimal perhaps!
with a life expectancy of 150 instead of 75 or so, the planet will pretty much double its population, though the number of young will (presumably) remain the same. Who's going to pay the pensions of the 150-year-olds?
nope, look up peak child jno.
Jno, you should read Clucky’s thread.
peak child as I understand it is basing projections on the human race as it is now - ie dying in very approximately their 80s. You can adjust it for a population whose life expectancy changes gradually, but my guess is if everyone suddenly lived twice as long they'd change their way of thinking, and of having children. But I have no idea how they'd change.
sorry, Clucky's thread?
At 22:24, jno.
oh, sorry, I was looking for a whole separate thread. Well, as I said, I was hypothesising about an overnight change in life expectancy through some gerontological discovery, rather than a gradual change that people could gradually adapt to.
All the science in the world won't make governments or finance houses allow any big changes.
You know how they like to tweak the pension age and hang on to our loot to pay for their follies.
Hope not speaking for myself. I have had enough of non self inflicted medical problems. Got my money's worth out my N.I. payments and taxes. Approaching three score and ten and happy to call it a day.
If they do we will have to raise retirement age to 100 !
