why not, anything is possible, even a second DT, you and an AB out there, God help mankind at that point.
It's possible. It doesn't make sense that this is the only speck of dust in the vastness of space that has supposedly intelligent life on it!
Question Author
Haha! Indeed, DT.
It's just a rotating body with radio emitting from one point, they've been seen before
Question Author
Part of me would love it to be a sign of intelligent alien life ... but actually happening upon intelligent alien life is a daunting prospect.
Yes, it is a possibility. But a tenuous one.
Hopefully more reliable than current DAB signals.
Seems every new unknown phenomenon spotted gets the "aliens" explanation among the possibles.

There are situations where energy is beamed out regularly already. All it needs is a rotating source of energy.

OG, //Seems every new unknown phenomenon spotted gets the "aliens" explanation among the possibles. //

It ought to be a consideration, don't you think?
Its probably some race saying stop chucking your primitive satellites at us. Or deep space advertising.
A suitably small consideration until evidence points more in that direction.
Saw this last night on a different site(can't find it now) but remember that the signals were in the 400hz range of radio signals, which is very low by any standard. Low frequencies are proven to carry very well in the World's oceans and are of course utilised by Whales to communicate over great distances. Interesting...…...perhaps Whales are after all the aliens we are looking for. (^_*)
400Mhz.
If aliens sent them it will have been ages ago and they'll be long dead by now.
// It's just a rotating body with radio emitting from one point, they've been seen before//

yes - 1967. They were initially labelled LGM1 - little green man,
before being identified as whatever they were ( rotating black holes ) by Jocelyn Bell Burnell

[sorry this is an aliens o gawd thread. Mystic Meg has already offered: they may well be - "let me see the runes or perhaps not".]

who (JBB) was renowned for her willingness to sit in freezing conditions looking at paper tape of radio waves. Her thesis supervisor and professor got the joint Nobel Prize and she didnt
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jocelyn_Bell_Burnell

she said on retirement, laden with other honours, 'I havent done badly out of a career of 'woman who should have got the Nobel Prize' - and as a quacker had no regrets .....

Aliens? no I dont think they are aliens
// It ought to be a consideration, don't you think?//
christ about as likely as the Resurrection I would think ...

second resurrection then
Question Author
Togo, that reminds me of a movie – I think it might have been one of the Star Trek films – where whales were the only creatures on earth that could communicate with aliens. Something like that anyway.
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
Haha.... I honestly cannot remember seeing the movie but I have just looked up the plot after Jim identified it. I have watched some of the Star Trek films but can honestly say that I have not watched Voyage Home...…...perhaps I should. I might be in it. :))
