Even more amazing when you know that over 99.999% of Neutrinos pass straight through the entire Earth without being detected. They can only be detected if they hit an atomic nucleus 'head on' which is VERY unusual. Then there is the fact that that neutrino must have started its journey just after the Big Bang, that was the beginning of the Universe. They travel near the speed of light so its journey has taken over 37 Billion years.
Fascinating stuff, it had quite a journey until it bumped into our little rock.

Since the Universe is only 14 billion years old, the journey won't have taken 37 billion years...

Eddie missed out the decimal point Jim. 3.7 billion. Not to say the difference between light years and miles even. :((
Jim 360 yes, but the distance of the Galaxy is given as 37 Billion Light Years away. So I assume it is on 'the other side' of the Universe and receding from us at more than the speed of light?
^ OK that's it. The title says 37bn - light -years-away . Then the actual artical says 3.7 Billion.
