This is one for old TV techies....
I have some recordings of programs of an old German POP program from the 60's and 70's called Beat Club. I have notice that the older recordings from the 60's and in black and white have the corners lopped off so they look like a fat hexigon. I have noticed this on some other old b/w programs from the 60's...anyone know why this is??? Could they have been filmed off a monitor, really curious why it isnt a perfect 4:3 screen shape. Curious to know why.....cheers!!!

The first "video recordings" were literally filmed from a monitor although things had moved on a bit by the 70's
Only guessing, but could it be a circular image which just touches the right and left sides and gets cut off at the top and bottom?
This would give a fat hexagon shape.
