No because it's Go Back to Old Kent Road, so you don't pass GO
I thought you had to go round the board at least once before you were able to
buy houses or hotels. Not hundred percent sure though,it's years since I played it.
Brown envelope to the banker?
Ah, you would need to play with two opponents.

If your opponent goes first and lands on Chance, draws the Go Back to Old Kent Road card and goes back, doesn't want to buy it and you win the auction for it.

The second opponent then throws a three and lands on Whitechapel Rd likewise you buy it at auction , and then on your first go you can then buy houses and hotels.

However: The old rules specified you couldn't buy on the first circuit, and I also thought you could only buy houses and hotels before you threw, which rules out a two player scenario.

Just to help, official rules allow property to be purchased at any time during a players turn and it is not necessary to have completed one circuit of the board before buying property.
Not many people bother reading the official rules supplied and usually follow family/house rules.

Doubles are involved.

The set I have from the 1960's specifies you can't buy on the first turn and property trading must be completed before you buy.

It also specifes that if you throw three consecutive doubles you go to jail.
I thought that before you could build hotels you had to have 4 houses on each property in a colour group. Bit of a tall order for the first round. Mind, I haven't played for 40 years.
It's not possible and this is a trick question.

Well I've never seen those rules in any Monopoly set, are you reading them correctly?
Official Parker Bros rules apply.

Community Chest will help as well.
The once round before you buy rule simply does not exist. I've read through 5 lots of rules just know and that particular one is not on any. I think it's just a 'house rule' that was/is very popular among players but NOT official

Throwing three consecutive doubles consigns you to jail.
My scenario therefore works with the auctions.
You cant buy a house till you all 3 of a set of streets. You need 4 houses on a street before you can buy a hotel. Can't see how it's possible but we will see.........soon I hope lol
But you might pick up a get out of jail free card before you throw the third double.
On OKR and Whitechapel Rd. Houses cost £50, IIRC. You could therefore do it with two players and then you pay £250 for each hotel on the two squares.
