Hello again from Queen Christiana (the Cheerful One) ready and willing to set Week 3 of the MM Links. Last week, I shared with you some of my favourite things, one of them being my garden. I especially love the hidden parts of a garden --the bits that are tucked away and the plants that are out of sight in the winter months. However, because I only moved house to Lincolnshire in July, there are still many exciting discoveries for me to make in my new environment: I’ve yet to see how it will look in the Spring (if it ever comes).

At this time of the year, the garden starts to reveal some of those secrets. Despite the severe weather we have had, the spears of small green bulbs are popping up everywhere, catkins are unfurling, the buds on the magnolia tree are swelling, as are the camellias and rhododendrons. Swelling too, in the last few days, has been the symphony of bird songs. They are becoming more intense and urgent. Spring may still seem a long way off, but the birds are already beginning to prepare for it.

I love the garden’s tranquillity. It offers a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the modern world. Today, I planted two especially fragrant roses into pots, aided by a friendly robin, and returned indoors my cheerfulness renewed.

All this brings to mind the poem:

“The kiss of the sun for pardon
The song of the birds for mirth
One is nearer God's heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.
Question Author
As far as playing the MM Links game is concerned, I shall follow the rules relating the word length as introduced by crofter. Each of my chosen link words contains at least four letters and at most eight. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one or more of your attempts! Each of my selected words may go in front of or after my challenge word. The competition will officially close at 7.00pm on Sunday evening when my selected words will be declared, and points awarded by crofter in the usual manner. My third set of words to be linked should appear below at 9.00am.
Morning Christiana
You will love Lincolnshire in the springtime as I always think it is so fresh
