Immigration and the death of British culture
We often here arguments over the death of British culture due to immigration - but looking at pictures of some of the EDL earlier today it struck me that Britain has indeed changed, but is there a bigger argument - that cultural imperialism has impacted the UK to a larger extent?
You get into your Peugeots, VWs, Fords or Fiats (French, German, American or Italian), drive into town, grab a latte from Starbucks (American), call your partner on your Nokia phone (Finland) to arrange to pick up a coffee table from Ikea (Sweden) and then go shopping for jeans at French Connection (French).
The following day, you log onto your Sony Vaio (Japanese) to book tickets to go see the new film 'Night & Day' (American) and decide to pop into MacDonald's (American) for a burger...after realising that the kebab (Greek), Indian (Indian) and Chinese (Chinese) restaurants are going to be closing soon.
If British culture is dying on its feet, isn't it because we've bought into the lifestyle of rest of the world and we like it?

these islands have accepted incomers over countless centuries, and each has brought something of their culture to the party, usually to be embraced by society as a whole.
british culture is not dying - it is adapting as it always has. the fact that it's now so easy & quick to travel around the world just means the process occurs much quicker and more noticeably now.

Ou culture is under more threat because our shared language with the United States. All the TV imports, all the music imports, and the www imports influence the brains and behavior of the next generation of British children.
This is the source of nearly all of the changes to the British way in the last 50 years. The odd late night *** shop or takeaway has had minimal impact.

I absolutely don't know - that would have to be a question to be answers by those who decry the death of British culture.
They always shout about it when attacking immigration (or more accurately, when they attack immigrants), bit they seem to ignore the fact that Britain's cultural identity would've undergone a sea change without mass immigration.

But just what is 'British culture'? Because there has never been an indigenous 'British' people.
For tens of thousands of years, our islands have a been a place that people have come to - Celts, Britons and Normans from France, Angles, Saxons and Jutes from Germany and Romans (actually a Spanish legion) - some peaceable, others not so peaceable. All have left their stamp on our culture in some way. It continues today with people coming from India, Africa, China and Eastern Europe, and it will continue long into the future.
If you can define British culture at all then it must surely be as a constantly evolving, amorphous multi-culture. It's not dying at all. Rather our buying into the lifestyle of the rest of the world is merely part of it.

It is not a matter of the goods we buy from all over the world, Britain, (no I won't use that word), 'England', has always been a trading country.
It is a matter of the large influx of immigrants from every corner of the world that has come to our country, to take benefit from the culture that we in England have built up over the last 1,000 years.
The mighty cathedrals, the lovely country churches, the majestic castles, the quaint villages, the thatched cottages, all in all the whole of English culture.
These are alien to the peoples of the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, they are not part of their culture, and yet we see day by day large sections of our country being taken over by them.
We the indigenous people were never asked if we wanted multiculturalism, so in a way we have been invaded and could do nothing about it.
Before anyone says well we invaded various countries of the world, I say to them perhaps we did in a way, but that was in the past, these countries have now thrown us out, and now have their countries back.
The question I now ask will we someday also be allowed to throw out our guests, and get our country back?

I'm sure the following question has been asked before but.............
The year is 2025 and the Government of the day have decided to throw out all the non indigenous residents of Britain (or England if you prefer). Where do you draw the line? Do we go back to 1066 and work out which people have a lineage back to the Norman conquest, or does your, as usual, ill-thought-out statement only extend to the people with darker skins?

In bygone days you would have travelled on your horse (Arab) wearing your finest silk waistcoat (China) and riding boots (Italy) to drink coffee (Java) or tea (India) at a fashionable club and then partake of a brandy (France) or perhaps a glass of sherry (Spain) or port (Portugal) served in crystal glasses (Venice). The carpets and rugs would have come from Persia. I forgot the cigar or pipe tobacco (America). If you went to church the service would be in Latin. And for presents for her indoors there would be jewels (Africa) and perfume (Greece).

My definition of English Culture is"
Remembering Britain's wonderful´fighting forces from the past to the present and respecting their efforts and being proud of them.
The Education System of Secondary schools, Grammar schools and our Public schools and the endeavour of the populace to improve their lot in life.
To have and be proud of your school and your school uniform and to partake in sporting events which should enrich your mental powers.
Our NHS once the envy of the world and now been overtaken by many other countries.
To eat Fish and Chips from a newspaper in the streets.
To go to church or chapel on a Sunday morning.
To go to Youth clubs to play table tennis and to chat up the girls.
To be a Cub and later to Join the Boy Scouts.
Yes...that is my idea of British Culture and yes, on my definition it isn´t dying on it´s feet.........it is already ...DEAD.
