I have a Panasonic TZ7 - but even using the Auto feature - I don't always get such great pictures - sometimes they come out quite dark (this is usually when using the zoom) and if the flash goes it's too washed out. I like to use the macro mode - but when using this feature once the picture is taken - if I zoom in on the picture - the quality deteriorates immediately. I take a lot of nature pics - lots of insects, butterflies etc - zooming makes the picture really blurry. Now here's my dilemma - I have a Nokia N97 which can also take pics (5megapixels) and when using the macro feature on that it is totally awesome!! I can zoom in after I've taken the picture and the quality is still pin sharp and just amazing. There is no pixelation at all. Why can I not do this using my expensive camera??

Can anyone give me any tips or point me to any sites which give guidance on photography????

Your panasonic allows you to set the picture size, you should be in the 3+ mbyte range. Have you set this to a smaller value, similar with the effective film speed, you should be in the ASA 64 - 400 range, if you are above this then the results may struggle. I also use a panasonic and get great results
