I think I'm there now. It's DECAD (variant of decade), which can mean 'any group or series of ten' (ie 'tenners').

The wordplay is C (N American slang for $100) in DEAD - recent (well, recent-ish) slang term meaning 'most'.

Not a great clue, but better than 13a!
