The first week in the reign of Don Corleone did NOT go according to plan and there were even attempts by some of bribes being offered ~ sort of "Cash for Answers"! This is a twist "Cash for Questions" often played by politicians when they are not claiming for cleaning out their moats! The Godfather can now disclose his chosen links under the banner of The Sporting Life as:

Ball ROOM
HUMAN Race
BUTTER Cup
Medal LION

Quite a mixed bag of links from our relative newcomer ~ but how will the long-serving villains of the Shrubbery Gang tackle this challenge?

The second Entrant was cliffyg (long time associate of setter) who managed to score an early hit with HUMAN RACE and was quickly followed by fellow mobsters beejay1124, Dinkypuzzled, roslyn251254 & bridgenut mowed down the Human Race and so each claimed their payoff of TWO POINTS. They were followed by kay evsajo aka Jermima Puddleduck, who (avoiding the puddles of the carboot sale) scored a duck!

Entrant #12 was Christiana who opened up the game further with BUTTER CUP for another TWO POINTS ~ only to be followed by ex-champion lysander launching a double whammy with Human Race & Buttercup to claim FOUR POINTS and be crowned this months first HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK!
*** Let trumpets sound and cannon roar ***
*** Let the people cheer and shout Encore ***

Only a couple of entrants on and the game was blown wide open when Dustybun took out the tricky MEDAL LION for TWO POINTS. Only the innocuous Ball Room remained, and the next entrant paulineward came close with Ball Gown and MEDALLION for TWO POINTS again (close but not close enough)!

With the final link still at large, a number of single hits trickled through with gen2, wickedtongue, jobjockey & jan1956 all making their mark. However, worthy of mention was the ever-reliable Magyar who managed a double hit (for Two Points). With the game petering out, the very last entrant came in ~ banging on her kettledrum and waltzed across the BALL ROOM to save the day and took the last TWO POINTS (and not for the first time).

A hearty welcome to jess who is having a trial month while The Don is setting the links!

ONE POINT: gen2, jan1956, jobjockey & wickedtongue

Oh dear, NOT a good start to the month! A new wavelength to tune into, I think.....
From Ms. Puddleduck.... I must be quackers... I never score any points now, even when I am here early.
Thanks Crofter and Godfather, even though you foxed me again !!!!
Congrats Lysander "hot shot!
I will return !!!!!!!
MESSAGE TO DUSTYBUN
Hi re. Elkie Brooks, she was brilliant but started the night singing "He could have been an Army " !!!!! Shame you weren't there !!!
Wow! That was a bit of luck! .... and I nearly didn't enter at all, as I went away before 9 am on Saturday and when I got back on Sunday the page was too far back to reach. So, many many thanks to Jim Jools for posting the link specially for me.

And thanks to The Godfather and Crofter. Sadly I'm unlikely to be competing for the next 2 weekends as I shall be away and unless I can find someone prepared to lend me a laptop ....
Out of interest, as a relative newcomer. what does MM stand for ? KM I assume are Kates initials

Nothing for me yet again but i will keep trying.

Thanks to DeeCee and Crofter. See you on saturday.
MM stands for Michael Mepham - Kate's father - who used to set the Saturday GK crossword, and who died very suddenly. We used to play MM the same way as we now play KM links, but when he died, and we weren't sure whether the Saturday GK crossword with associated Herculis links on Monday was going to continue we decided to continue in Michael's memory, and the winner each month should set the following month's links.
Thank you Kettledrum for taking the time to answer. Makes sense now.
Thank youDC & crofter

Thanks to a laptop that was slow to start up, I missed out on bonus points, but glad to have scored anyway.

Hopefully, I will learn from those links and do better next week.

Probably, I will forget everything and it will be pot-luck again next week.

Cheers everyone.
So, The Godfather has well and truly stamped his authority on his first week along with his trusty henchman Scarface Crofter keeping everything tidy including the scoreboard! Thank you both and well done lysander.

MESSAGE FOR EVSAJO

Thanks for that Kay. I am absolutely gobsmacked as I had been told she hasn't done that for years. Just checked out the tour but the East Coast gets left out as usual! Glad you enjoyed it. D :0)
Back to the bottom of the pack again. I think there should be a prize for the dummies as well as for the clever folk. We sure would win it.
Thanks to the God Father and to Crofter.
Maybe next week you can make us an offer we can't refuse as far as the answers go?
