Not seen a thread for this weeks' EV so far ... and it took a while to complete. Anyone else pondering the connection between the novels?

Just got it. There is no link between the novels, I should have read the blurb more attentively! Get the HERO and it all fits.

The extra letters from the down clues made it all very accessible this week.

I'm very well, thank you. Absolutelty spiffing, in fact.

Several recent EVs have been less demanding than normal, but this one I found a real trial ... . Maybe the scope of my reading needs some widening. It was the Hooded Jacket and the Mooring Pole that gave me the dawning. Luckily for me, the novel also became a well-known film.
Should have put this in my earlier post.

The link is that the first five letters of the name of the central character of the first novel define the title of the second novel ( one pair of unclued answers ) and the remaining two letters of the first name + surname are a loose definition of the secod pair of unclued answers.
