As usual something connected with Ireland is gumming up the works. On 13 A can one presume Soar is an acceptable alternative to Saor for this character who goes around building towers? There has been some comment already on this issue. Can anyone throw any further light ?

Hi Minoru, have you seen this link ... slaney is particularly well versed on Irish related answers (see below), but as yet we have no definitive solution, so would welcome any other views on this one!

Hello sarumite. I had seen the postings you referred to which is why I said there had been comments already. Something has to be altered to relate to 13D which is also under contention.
Hi Minoru -

Every site refers to Goban SAOR .... except I just posted the one link I found with a spelling of SOAR .....

I don't like SOAR .... but how do you get around the problem with 10d ...... I can't see how the custard apple can be anything other than Annonaceae for which Chambers gives an alt spelling of Anonaceae !!!

The Linnaean classification of plants is being challenged and altered so perhaps this is where the solution lies? I don't buy into 'ananaceae' for that seems to refer to the pineapple ... there is though agavaceae ...but, I just can't link it to the custard apple!!

Thanks for all your comments. Incidentally I should have referred to 10D being under contention not 13D. Mea culpa.

I have seen the word anonaceae suggested as an alternative to annonaceae as taize rightly points out.. So it looks as though this may have to be entered as well as Soar which doesn't bode well for winning that atlas!
