Memories eh! Did your memories match King Fordward's? or did you think

you had spotted some clues? Do your musical memories go back as far as the 60s?

If so you will recall that:

'Guantanamera' was a hit for The SandPIPERS

'Island of dreams' was a hit for Tom SpringFIELD / The SpringFIELDS (but I

remember the Judith Durham version better).

Barry McGuire's 'Eve of destruction' did not feature in the links and was just

there as a distractor. Were you distracted? Of course not.

All that talk of beaches and 60s music should have conjured up surfin' refrains

from the beach BOYS.

You may even have recalled a lesser group called VANITY Fare with hits like

'Hitchin a Ride' or maybe the electric violin of Dave Swarbrick with FairPORT

Convention (That was the first concert I ever went to back in '66 or '67).

Now the big question is: "Did King Fordward go with any of the above or

was he misleading you? I can now reveal that the links he chose were:

Beach BOYS
Sand PIPERS
Spring FIELDS
VANITY Fair

See below to find out who is in the points.

First let me remind you that in this game plurals are taken to be equivalent to

the singular version as far as earning points is concerned. Therefore both PIPER

and PIPERS were acceptable point scorers. Similarly, if any Simpsons' fan had

chosen SpringFIELD, that would have been OK too.

Now Christiana was first to score with BEACH BOYS and then FoxLee,

slaney & miss meg
chose the same within two minutes all for 2 points.

Next down was VANITY FAIR at 9:06 chosen by Jim(JimJools) for 2 points

then 3 minutes later evsajo opted for SAND PIPER - also 2 points.

We had to wait until entrant 44 at a quarter past three in the afternoon had a

flash of inspiration and not only picked up 2 points for the final match of

SPRINGFIELDS, but also a point each for BEACH BOYS and SANDPIPERS. No. you hadn't

'lost the plot' at all dustybun.

Remember ladyalex matched three last week? Well she remained on form and

matched another two this week. The only other double hitter was Elspeth.

This means that the '*** HOTSHOT OF THE WEEK ***' with 3 hits/4 points is

dustybun '*** CONGRATULATIONS ***'.

See below for how the leaderboard looks at the halfway point in February.

Question Author
Top on 5 points is ladyalex
On 4 points are Dustybun & freebi2</b
On 3 points are Elspeth & FoxLee</b
on 2 points there are 14 players and
on 1 point there are a further 12.

It is still anyones game this month. Will lucky newcomer ladyalex continue to clock up the points? Or will one of the early shrubbery crowd get lucky on a couple of matches for 4 points putting them up with the leaders?

So far, fordward has covered family, growing up, and memories. Where will he go next? Will you be on the same wavelength? In any case, to be in with a chance, you have to be there. To be in with a chance of bonus points, you have to get in early. On the other hand, dustybun has shown than a slower considered approach can also pay off. See you all at 9:00 am next Saturday.

Sorry about the line breaks in the first two parts - I forgot to turn 'Wordwrap' off.

I also seem to have lost a couple of > symbols during a cut'n'paste in the last section.

I think you can read my meaning clearly enough though so no need to re-post.

Sorry, gen2
Well zilch again!! Well done fordward!...and thanks gen2.

Well done all the scorers...and dustybun..hotshot!!...
I worry that fordward guessed mine...and has me completely stumped on his!!...Oh well...there's always next week!

well I didn't cause you any work gen2 - zero for me again (at least I'm consistent)
Well done to Hotshot Dustybun and to all the others who got some points.
Thanks to King Fordward and gen2 for all the hard work.
Far too clever for me!!!! Not an hombre sincero Gen 2!

Thank you Fordward and Gen2 and well done Dusty
well done dusty and the other point scorers
thanks fordward and gen2
I will be early next week as i have a Saturday off!!!
jan
Well done everyone
Ladyalex
Nothing for me :-( But Jim managed to get 2.

Thanks Gen2 and forward see you all next week.
Thanks gen2 for all your efforts, however my efforts profited me nothing.

But, fordward, I am seriously worried about what you did in the 60's and your choice of music, actually I am much more worried about what you didn't do in the 60's!

Gosh, you must have been very sober and sensible! I went to University in '64 and left in '71 and I certainly was not!

Strix
Question Author
Seven years at uni. Strix!

Was it your living it up that made it last so long?
Hi Strix its a good cover story , its the bits inbetween that are realy good!!
spent Two years in Aden so they tell me!
I am absolutely gobsmacked! I have never been a hotshot in my life and I can assure you all that I won't get this lucky again so I shall relish this now!! Weeeeeee!!
"And though I heard some wise man say
That every dog will have his day ....."
Thank you fordward and gen2 for all your work, and well done ladyalex. Me? I'm still grinning! :0)
Really good guessing, Dustybun..

Just the good 'ol Beach Boys for me...thanks fordward and gen2.
fordward, seven years?

Too thick to get a degree in three years, had to spin it out so I could continue to get cheap beer in the student's union at Newcastle.

No, actually an architecture course is seven years in total (two degrees but with two years working) and the really sad thing is that, when you look around you, it still doesn't make architects capable of designing beautiful buildings!

Enough said, but keep confusing me, fordward, with your links but, please, next time you suggest music links make it a little less shirt and tie and a little more long hair/flared trousers!

Best wishes
Strix
Really good links Fordward (even though I didn't see them!!) Loo k forward to next week and will try much harder. I did manage 2 points but only a lucky guess.
Congratulations to other points scorers and finally thanks to Gen2 for working hard behind the scenes, even though he was rude about my age and still haven't forgiven him.
Thanks gen2 and Fordward. I like your taste of music, only wished I'd gone on that tack but chose the holiday theme, never mind, will try again next week.
Congratulations to Dusty - great thinking, I particularly liked your Fair field convention, but you didn't score with that one.
Strix - the best music ever was in the 60's . Would you like Architecture as a theme - if that happened I think I might stand a chance - maybe not - the 60's music is still my favourite, although I scored nothing this week.
Well done to everybody, it's sad to say, but this contest has been the highlight of my week - good luck to everybody with tomorrows KM- another highlight -please keep up the good work, you are such great friends and yet I've never met you. I look forward (fordward) to actually setting the words one week. - no chance!!!!!
Thanks everyone, have a great week
P.S. Where and how did Barry McGuires "Eve of Destuction" figure in the link words ?
Just and after thought

Obviously last week's one point was a complete fluke and I'm no more on King Fordward's wave length than on anyone else's, but gee, it's fun trying !!!

Well done, Dustybun my friend - see, it was worth coming back to us and well done everyone else, as well.

Fingers crossed for KM then, ha ha ha !!!
