My mum was 27 when I was born. 8 years ago she was twice as old as I shall be in 5 years time. How old am I now?

I am a real dunce when it comes to maths, this is from some school homework ( not mine, I'm 40).

What's the answer, with explanation, please.

17
in five years I will be 22

22 X 2 =44

44 less 27 =17
Assume girls age is x - therefore

2 (x + 5) = x + 27- 8

Girls age in 5 years = twice mothers age 8 years ago

=

2 x + 10 = x + 19

=

2 x - x = 19 - 10

therefore

x = 9

I hope you can understand that. :-)
sorry missed 8 years ago. try again
