Got to go shopping in a bit Sarumite, but will be on later for a short time. Then we have visitors tonight, so like you I will be on and off! No doubt we will catch up though. I should be a bit 'freer' tomorrow.
Thanks for those answers. By the way, must say what a godsend you explaining to us about the reverse dictionary feature ... use it a lot now!...you are a star! But I won't say that in public!!
Hope you enjoy your weekend! :-)...speak soon!

It's shown here sincnoel ....

thanks, sarumite. i think that must be about the only place you can find the term because i cannot locate it in my rather large reference library. this is taking obscurity to new levels, surely.
Question Author
I seem to remember the term being used in old films, but must admit it was a little tricky to find any references .. it's not in any of my dictionaries inc. Chambers as you mentioned. (S)
i've made pegasusarchive a favourite, just in case of future teasers of a similar nature. one cannot be too careful, what?
May I ask which Scrabble site you use ?
I believe the Goon show goons adopted the term from POWs who coined it.
It can be found in WW2 literature - memoirs, escape stories, etc.
