What do you think all you vegetarians of the change of rennet, taken from young calves stomachs, to be used in the manufacturing of their chocolate products? Do you think this is a bad move? Are you aware that most cheese also uses rennet? Comments please!

OMG, tell me about it, my sister emailed me today, as we r veggies. my kids, although not veggie (me and my meat eating husband comprimised- they eat fish and poultry), are so upset at what they cant eat now. I think masterfoods are taking a step backwards not forewards and it shows what a completely unmodern company they are. I have found most cheeses, tesco at least, are vegeterian. its the italian cheeses, like parmesan that usually have rennet in it. u might also find this site interesting if u r interested in this kind of thing - www.savethesheep.com however its mostly cows, and not for the faint hearted.
I remember years ago that Mars bars were banned for muslims to eat because of the pork fat they contained. I don't know if they still use pork fat (haven't had a Mars for years). I can't see why they now want to put rennet in them as there'll be even less people eating them. The rennet is taken from dead young calves stomachs.
i assume its cheaper - however given that they will lose a sizable portion of sales, i suspect it may be a false economy.
Either Masterfoods haven't thought through the end result of the change or they don't care if they lose custom.
As a footnote,,,,,, all cadbury / schweppes are suitable for vegetarians.
ooh goody, i prefer cadburys anyway!!
I have e mailed them and told them that someone in their marketing department must have mad cow's disease! There is another thread about this somewhere with the e mail address to complain to, hang on I will find it ...
