When at school in the 70s, I remember smelling a distinctive disinfectant. What was the smell and can I buy anything today that smells the same?

Could have been San Izal its a black disinfectant has a sort of tarry smell
I am sure its still available in the shops
Quite likely: Jeyes Fluid - this is also now available in powder form (excellent for wheelie bins). Although there was a thread a few months back saying that this now smelled a little different because certain chemicals are now banned.
In my day, schools smelled of carbolic soap. The school janitor was 'the keeper of the carbolic'.
