I was recently suufering serious stomach cramps. Went to the Doc and he said I was constipated. Bit of a surprise as I was regular as a Swiss timepiece. He expalined that constipation is not a total lack of toilet going as people think.

Any way he said lay of the ruffage for a while.

Silly question, but what foods are "ruffage"

I'm surprised your doctor advised you to reduce roughage - it usually helps your bowels.

These foods are high in roughage!

* Wholemeal, granary and softgrain varieties of bread
* Jacket potatoes, new potatoes in their skins and baked potato skins
* Wholegrain breakfast cereals, eg. Weetabix, branflakes, unsweetened muesli, Shreddies and porridge oats
* Wholemeal pasta and brown rice
* Beans, lentils and peas
* Fresh and dried fruits particularly if the skins are eaten
* Vegetables particularly if the skins are eaten
* Nuts and seeds
* Wholemeal flour
Sometimes, just 'roughage' in itself isn't enough. Make sure you're taking in enough fluids - either via water, juice etc or juicy fruit.

Imagine pushing a spong thru a tube - it's bulky - it would benefit from a bit of lubrication.

Hope u feel better soon : )
too much roughage will block you up - so follow your docs advice and have plenty of fruit and water to help clear you out a bit
Fruit is roughage, iggy.
