Good morning, interesting Pabulum’s offering this week! Got the quotation and the author quite easily, but am quite unsure about the following clues for which I would appreciate answers, thanks!

Many thanks, all, I did work out "beam" and its connection with mote in the eye and fault. On to the two pairs of Unclueds now.
Question Author
Yes, Johnpiper and Cashier "Terreen" is the older spelling for " Treen" given in Chambers.
matakari
did you mean to type "older spelling of tureen" ?
Adding a question! 26a Chap heard shouting H?E is it HEE?
HIE ? ...scottish word for shout to a horse to turn left....
Thanks Roslyn. If you're right it's a terrible clue!
I put Hue, which means 'shouting' and sounds like Hugh, chap.
PS I didn't really like the Hie as the 'shouting' seemed far too vague.
I went for hue as well.
Hue certainly makes the most sense.
Glad we could help, Farrwest.
Question Author
Older spelling for "tureen" is correct, jazzgirl, sorry!

adding another question! 19a - very silly fish…..-S-AI?
My last gap!
