er thanks, but no thanks!
Definitel not, the EU by any other name.
not a chance
// Mr Macron said he was all in favour of ‘creating what I would call a European political community.//

I don't know if anyone has told him, but there already is one. And the UK left it.
makro brain could show good faith by taking back all the dinghy arrivals, he won't as they unloaded there dead weight illegals to us.
Don't know why Macron bothers. The UK will have to go begging to rejoin eventually.
sounds like the EUSSR to me no thanks. You don't have to join a club to cooperate with each other.
gulliver: "Don't know why Macron bothers. The UK will have to go begging to rejoin eventually. " - can you outline your reasons for that prediction.
Is Macron looking to be the Big Cheese now that Merkel is no longer around to outrank him?
Silly idea but especially by approaching a government elected on the hyperbole of Brexit and nothing else.
er, we want a free trade market or is that not the thing on offer ?
( Macron as author = liar, and also, je regrette..... failed Russian negotiator )
// Is Macron looking to be the Big Cheese now that Merkel is no longer around to outrank him?//
yes I think so
see failed Russian peace initiatives - Didnt Putin assure macron he wouldnt invade on the day.... he invaded?

The new German Chancellor has not led well ( olaf schweinhund or whoever he is) so Macron has a chance
No. I can't wait for Macron to get his comeuppance. Horrible little man.
Non merci, nein danke, no grazie.

Ahhh bless. They’re missing us already.
I agree with Prudie, as far as I am concerned, he is a vile little man !
Not on their nelly.
Given the rank hostility experienced from Macron when Britain exited the EU, it would be a sweet revenge to politely decline his offer.

But politicians and pragmatic by nature, it's part of the job description, which is why Monsieur Macron is offering the deal, and why Britain will consider it, and not reject it out of hand.

I fail to see any obvious benefits to such an alliance, and plenty of downsides, but then I am not a politician - they may see something in the arrangement that I can't.

That said, since Mr Johnson swept to power on a fulfilled promise to extricate the UK from the tentacles of Europe, I can't see any political benefit in basically moving the chairs around, and sitting around the table again.
After all this country has been through to finally achieve what the electorate voted for, even consideration would invite pandemonium. I think it has to be a straight ‘no thanks’.
Maybe we could have a referendum
....or even a neverendum dougie!
