Anybody else noticed this?
The music they play in the background during Dramas, Documentaries etc drives me mad.
I don't mind if it's just playing quietly in the background but it's quite often loud dramatic music and I end up putting subtitles on and turning off the sound.

Some say it's there to guide the uninitiated to the correct/acceptable emotional level the programme makers were looking for.

Increasingly frantic piano music - something big is coming.
Frantic piano music slowing suddenly - Kleenex moment.
Plucked strings - why are you wasting time on this dross.
Bowed cellos - Shark!

etc
Noticed, Barsel? Annoys the life out of me. I think it's getting worse by the week. I rarely watch films but one took my fancy recently. Gave up because of the thumping, unnecessary music that didn't stop.
It's almost every programme now. :-(
Annoys me as well, especially when you have to turn the dialogue up because it's so quiet, then BOOM!

I'm glad it's not just me then. :-)
Further to that I do expect when watching a horror films etc... that's the effect they're after but now even a drama etc..
My TV has different audio settings and they work! I have mine set to speech with the bass down, unless I'm listening to a music programme. Maybe your TV has similar options
Mine does, which I knew anyway... no idea why I didn't think of it. And it's simple to switch between them :-/
The problem of over-loud background music on TV programmes has come up many times before on AB. Lots of people have found that the problem can be eased by adjusting the sound settings on their TV sets. (Getting the sound right should be something that everyone who buys a TV does when they first use it but I'd be prepared to bet that over 90% of people simply leave the sound settings at their default levels).

Even my ultra-cheapo Polaroid TV from Asda offers 'Standard', 'Music' and 'Theater' (horrid US spelling) settings, along with 'User', which allows a viewer to configure the treble, bass and balance settings exactly as they want them to be. More expensive sets will probably offer even more options. So perhaps it's time to press that 'Menu' button?

Bit complicated for me as I have a sound bar and watch the TV through the Humax, so which remote do I need to change the sound settings?
Chris, I'm sure you can imagine what techy Dave has done to the TV to try to make the sound acceptable to me. I've had him on his knees fiddling around more times than you can image. I'm still not happy..... :-(
The thing is i'd already set up personalised settings as well... just being thick as well as Arena, sports, etc..

Oh Gness, you're very hard to please. :-) x
The unnecessary music just needs to go.
I guess I am, Barsel. I'm perfect otherwise... ;-)
You have to forgive him at some point Gness... whatever he's done ;-)
>>> I've had him on his knees fiddling around more times than you can image. I'm still not happy,

I could come up with a reply to that, Gness, but I'd rather not get banned from this site ;-)
Arky, you know I never forgive. Not starting now! ;-)
I wasn't going to go there... Chris ;-)
Ooooooo. I’ll bet you could come up with an answer, Chris. I’ll just use my imagination. :-)
