The first golfing competition of the year gets underway today with 30 odd tournament winners from last year taking part. There are one or two absentees due to injury/Covid/personal choice, but most of the world's top players are there, hoping to get the new season off to a flyer.

Obviously going in a tad cold here, as regards stats, but one thing to bear in mind is that Justin Thomas has won this twice - 2017 and 2020 - so he ought to be on any shortlist. Another is that you have to go back to 2006 to find a winner with less than a double-figure below par finish. - Stuart Appleby's 3rd victory on -8. The next lowest since then is -14.

I usually bring a bank of £20 to £30 to the table, but i'm only playing with a tenner on this one;

£3 win Justin Thomas @ 8/1 - Sky
£3 win Jon Rahm @ 9/1 - WH
£4 both players to shoot 70 or less in each of the 4 rounds @ 9/2 - Sky

Close, but no cigar. Cameron Smith of Australia won the tournament on -34 with Jon Rahm 2nd, a stroke behind. Rahm's 4 day scores were 66, 66, 61 and 66.
Justin Thomas had a very troubled first round of 74, then followed with 67, 61 and 65 to finish tied 5th.
