Scattered around the grid, in contiguous squares in a forward direction, are a number of instances of gold, silver and bronze. Giving 3 pts for a gold, 2 for a silver and 1 for a bronze, what is the total score of medals?

A very straightforward and pleasurable fill this month. Just not sure if the symbol for gold includes the heraldry form OR. What is the symbol for bronze? Thank you!

Thanks, Bobbinwales, the two basic symbols for bronze are CU and SN, bronze being a combination of copper (CU) and tin (SN), but in my filled grid, none of these symbols appear. According to the preamble there are instances of the three elements, gold, silver and bronze.
Well bronze is not an element so there's a twist in there

Did you have a go at this puzzle, Bobbinwales? I enjoyed it, it was plain sailing, the gold and silver medals showed up quite nicely. It's the bronze medal that seems to pose a problem.
