the clue is "snide bob quits getting irritable" it could be narky or nervy, both identify with irritable, howver i favour narky because somehow bob equates to ark but i doubt this is the connection. can some kind soul parse this for me?

thank you all for the enlightenment, i have to say that it is not the best example of a clever well thought out clue. basically it seems we are replacing an americanism with an english expression, there was no eureka moment for me on seeing the explanataion. i confess that i have not heard of the americanism before, and i am getting on a bit!! eighty last birthday so i have missed out somewhere, thanks again to you all
