Monitor Off Single Key Shortcut

I'd like to be able to replace the 3 key keyboard shortcut (ctrl-shift-eject) which turns just the display off on my iMac with a single key shortcut. I have vague recollections of doing this with automator and apple script in the past but I can't remeber how I did it. I don't want the computer to sleep, just turn the display off. Any help appreciated, thanks

It's over 20 years since I last used a Mac (and the college where I was using it wouldn't have approved if I started changing shortcuts anyway!), so I'm no expert here. However this page looks as if it might be relevant to your question:
