We are used to pheasants coming to our garden but this year is slightly different. The local shoot, for the first time, have reared the beautiful dark blue pheasants and they have one pure white too.

I have been unable to photograph these magnificent birds - the dogs seem to scare them off! One needs to be quite close to appreciate the iridescent colours of purple to blue to dark green otherwise they appear to be plain black at a distance. The tail feathers are the normal colour as one would expect. Have to make do with a stock photo:

Cannot wait to see them in sunshine.

i wonder why they want to shoot them? they don't make any more money at the butchers

I saw one just 4 yards away in the middle of the veggie patch, patsy, and it was magnificent. The colours really are breathtaking, though I think the same of the normal colour - like beaten copper in the sun.

woof, I am afraid it is just another one of those country pursuits :(
Wonderful to see, Choux.
yeah choux I know....but the plain coloured ones are cheaper to buy and just as shootable
woofgang, they make their money from the shoot itself. I have a lot of pheasant in my freezer.
Sorry, woofgang, I misunderstood your post
