Was charged twice yesterday for daily paper.

Back in today and got a cash refund. I also bought a paper, TV mag and crumpets. I asked for a packet of fags , my usual, she repeated what I asked and gave me the wrong ones.

She exchanged the fags and asked if I wanted a receipt, absolutely, I replied, 60p today could be a tenner tomorrow.
Just checked my receipt and only been charged for the fags.

Yes, I know honesty is the best policy but take the view that it is compensation for petrol used many times to exchange things given wrongly.

I would always ask for a receipt. In Italy, for example, by law a receipt must be issued and the purchaser must be able to produce it if required.
I went into a new pound shop the other day and they've set their tills now, not to give a receipt. I've also noticed that supermarkets now ask if you want a receipt apposed to just giving you one. I don't know where this is all leading, or how you stand should you want to take anything back, or get stopped on the door should the alarm go off for the goods you have in your bag?

My daughters never ask for one, how on earth they reconcile their finances is beyond me.
TC, If you need a receipt all you have to do is ask for one. Can't see any problem here.
Yes, I've noticed that now in Tesco even if you've spent a lot they ask if you want a receipt, when they used to automatically just hand it to you.

Dont use contactless.

Another thing I have noticed over recent years is that when paying by card supermarkets would automatically ask if you wanted any cash back. Now they don't. You can still get it but you have to ask.

I like contactless. But insist on a receipt.
LoL.....
Mistake in their favour = immediate teeth-gnashing and much mumping.....
Mistake in your favour = tortuous rationalisation of why you should be allowed to keep it.

I check my grocery shopping receipts, and those for larger purchases but not those for smaller corner-shop type purchases.
danny, read my post in its entirety. The new pound shop I went into have ( stopped giving receipts )

Well jth, it is like this. 1st mistake I will respond, 2nd mistake I shall ignore.
If you like contactless thats fine but you need to keep an eye on it, for instance send an alert to your watch or something and check check chekc. Personally I find it easier to use a PIN code.

And I would be very careful of using it in a pub.
Quite. I wouldn't use it in a restaurant either. In fact I never use it, always chip and pin despite the face-twisting of those behind the counter.
//or how you stand should you want to take anything back, or get stopped on the door should the alarm go off for the goods you have in your bag?//
All the transactions are recorded in their systems, just need your card details.
yeah I always ask for a receipt
and yes I go froo every transaction at the end of the month as the amaezon prime rip off occurs every month or two
( you think you havent signed up free for amazon but mr bezos thinks you have and gleefully charges you a fortnight later)
never use contacless its to insecure
// get stopped on the door should the alarm go off//

the alarm didnt go off and I was still stopped. I laboriously unpacked every item and showed the receipt and said "which item do you think I havent paid for"

and he was going for an all-or-none situation

[chrissakes what is wrong with you, I am not exactly a bolting horse at the check out]
I don't have a contactless card I don't trust them .
if you do three in quick succession / short order
