If it's 'sea' I think the clue should be 'the drink' not 'a drink'.

Not really, the 'ale' should be mixed IN the 3 directions not with it.

I'm sure I answered this some time back, but can't remember the answer I gave, nor find the thread (it's an age thing!!!) but seem to recall they weren't all compass directions; left and/or right came into it.

Yes Captain 2 he has the clue exactly correct. As far as I am concerned weasel is arrived at with ale and 3 directions being east,south & west.
