There are certain films that should never be " remakes"
I just saw a small bit (believe me that was enough) of a remake of ' Dirty Dancing'.
It was awful. It was like a cheap copy.
Some films should be left alone.
'Annie' is another one that springs to mind.
Anybody out there with other ideas.

Yes - The Railway Children, why on earth would you re-make that when the original was pretty much perfection.

Some films are just such classics and could never be improved.
Haven't seen the new Railway Children.
Don't think I want to .
the remake of True Grit was popular; I liked the old one but I haven't seen the newer one.
West Side Story. This is being remade by Steven Spielberg apparently but in my humble opinion the original will never be beaten.
jno; "The remake of True Grit was popular....." It may well be that remakes of some of cinema's older films - such as True Grit - are popular because today's audience haven't seen the original films. I've only watched 3 remakes - The Taking Of Pelham 123, Wicker Man and The Thomas Crown Affair- and all, compared to the originals, were absolute tosh. Don't think i would watch another remake.
I agree with ken4155,the original wicker man ,the Thomas crown affair classic, and films like Casablanca,For Whom The Bell Tolls,THE Story of DR Wasell, should be left alone.
Yes, remakes very rarely pass muster, but if anyone loves theatre, go and see Dirty Dancing there, it is absolutely brilliant and even better than the film imo !
I thought the remake of The Italian Job was a poor imitation.
I think the same with music. If it can't be improved upon, best left alone.

HereIam;
I did actually see the stage musical version of D D a few years back, and yes it was good. But wouldn't class that in the category of re-make as it is a completely different type of production.
In some cases they shouldn't even make the film. I saw West Side Story on the stage which was absolutely brilliant, the film they made was a huge disappointment. I assume a lot was changed for political correctness but it sounded ridiculous to hear a New York street gang member saying words that a five year old would use.
Highlander, although rumours about they're trying to do a re-boot.
Back to the future and Aliens should be left alone.

The worst re-boot I've ever seen was Mad Max.

But some good ones Total recall, Robocop... I enjoyed
3:10 to Yuma the original with Glen Ford remade with Russell Crowe horrendously bad!!
I liked The Italian Job, but don't consider it as a remake more of a nod to the original.
