Inbuilt Sony Vaio Laptop Microphone Not Working

Had to transfer Skype to laptop (Windows 7) as it's no longer supported on my Ipad. Picture's great, I can hear recipients but they can't hear me, so suggests a microphone issue. Have performed various checks (audio driver up to date, microphone is not muted, confirmed microphone is enabled and 'working') but to no avail. Used the 'test' function which suggested no problem.

Can anyone help please? Thanks in advance.

Forgive me if you've already done this, but, it is often not enough to check if drivers are up to date.
These checks can result in a "false positive". It looks at the driver, sees that it's the latest... and does nothing more.

It is often essential to actually uninstall drivers completely. Then, download the latest version to a clean slate, as it were.

Many thanks TB. The check I ran indicated that the laptop had the latest driver - but I'll give it a go and uninstall. Wish me luck!
