One of my 2 hedgehogs does not like the other - with a passion!

I was watching the videos of them from last night/this morning.

I had a ground feeder tray for the birds, which doubled up as hedgehog feeder at night.

Imagine my surprise when bully hedgy used his nose to up-end this tray towards victim hedgy - and then continue to ram the tray at him. It was definately deliberate, as he would have just walked over it otherwise!

Poor victum emerged a few minutes later, with tray attached to his leg.

Luckily he managed to extract himself.

Feeder tray is now out of harms way in the shed.

Hopefully victim hedgy learns to stand up for himself.

Tuvok - hoped to see you around. The local hedgehogs have turned my garden into their knocking shop. My garden is teeming with them - they’re even queuing up to get into the feeding station and running past my feet. I have them coming into my garden from two directions now and actually saw twelve one evening last weekend.

I envy you both........since arriving in Ireland I have seen only one hedgehog and it had met a sorry end on the road....I do miss them....:-(

The hedgehogs I see round here are covered in ticks....since we are a big Lyme Disease area, I treat them with caution.

How do you know they’ve got ticks?

I have got two dogs who find them in my garden. One will stay well clear but the other one will poke them and try and pick them up....then he yelps, then he tries again and so on ad lib. I have got an area of the garden fenced in for my tortoises that the dogs don't have access to so I keep a bucket and a pair of thick gloves handy and transfer the hedgie to the tortoise enclosure where there is water, insects and loads of places to hide also thoroughfare holes to leave the garden which are big enough for them but not big enough for my torts to escape. When I pick the hedgehog up or roll it into the bucket, I can see the ticks, clusters of them.

I’m outside now and ones just poked his head out of the feeder - they’re not bothered by me at all.

Still a war zone - but no weapons!
