This appears well OTT. How much is this officer worth tothe Royal Navy in experience,Training and courses etc You don't just pick any old matelot to command and control the fleets largest ship. I suspect he may have put up bigger black than just using the company car. What say you?

An ignominious end of his career. I think that Britannia should waive the rules.

I never thought of that retro....rules are rules for everyone, but i agree it is a bit OTT in my opinion. He has been moved sideways to command another major vessel.
We shall see.
I know I keep saying this but I soooooo doubt that's the whole story.
Jobsworths rule.
Totally ridiculous, someone well placed had their knives out for him, could be simple jealousy or could be something more, either way seems a curious decision.
I think there must be more behind this. I can tell you any employee of the MOD from lower ranks up would be utterly aware of the rules regarding T&S and use of company vehicles so that bit about him not realising doesn't wash.

From the link,
// He was never warned that using the Ford Galaxy for personal journeys was in breach of rules //

Shameful imo.
Can't be bothered with Yahoo but the article I saw earlier said he wasn't warned not to use the car for personal mileage, and he paid for the petrol. There must be something more to it.
Well, the first thing that comes to my mind is that he was having an affair with one of the ship's company of course...heterosexual.
>He was never warned that using the Ford Galaxy for personal journeys was in breach of rules

In my experience those with access to company cars have to sign some form of agreement which makes it clear as to what usage is permitted and covered by insurance, so I'd take with a pinch of salt any suggestion that he wan't aware of the rules.

But it does seem very OTT based on what we have been told. I think it's pretty likely there is more to this story, so we should wait and see
as with most police stories retro
we have no idea what the back story is....

is this a one off? does he do it regularly?
was there a lady inside or a rent boy?
was he unavailable during ?

did his colleagues tire of covering for him
and let him take the fall......

If dishonesty is proven, then you can as ever and in any job be dismissed ....
Didnt speaker Martin go ( Bercow's predecessor ) because his wife was doing the drongo ?

I thought he was doing other things and that was the only thing they could prove .....
I agree.. OTT! A ford galaxy?? Jheee
PP i was thinking maybe they wanted rid but needed a valid reason

I hadn't heard about it, other than reading the link provided. Two options as far as I can see... there is a lot more to it than has been printed (most likely) or... he has been found to be dishonest and therefore a liability.

It would seem ,on the basis of what has been reported, that his sideways shuffle is OTT and agreed by the majority of responders but, like me. believe there is more to this story than has been reported.
Could of been worse I suppose. A Sea King chopper racks up a hefty AVGAS bill.
Maybe a good reason for scrapping a ship, good for the environment, good for everyone.
Sanmac must surely get the 'best answer'!
A Ford Galaxy for Christs sake, I thought it would at least be an Aston Martin.
Lankeela, I'm glad someone got it:)
