anyone doing puzzle now for something different. i have worked out the answer but one of the clues 18 d doesn't seem to make sense am I having a senior moment or have they made a mistake x

its a crossword with two words per clue which differs by one letter the clue is. hesitate .sieve .......it has to fit ?I?t(or)d?r.

sift fits the sieve part but can't anything like that for hesitate.

danny the hesitate or sieve are the two clues you have to work out which one goes in the grid x

I have see shift translated as hesitate.

I'm going with sifter, so sieve must be the clue but cant think of a word for hesitate that is sifter but for one letter change x
