This quiz seems to be mainly in the plural for some reason. Struggling with a couple of these which seem obvious, but contain words which are not quite correct. 7. Police lead singer is back in past tense (5) Am tempted to put gnats, but there is no such word as "stang"! Also, 21. Meadow leads Switzerland to the Spanish (7) Again, leeches would fit, but a meadow is a lea, not a lee, so, again, I'm puzzled. Anyone suggest where I'm going wrong.

it doesn't state. My dictionary doesn't give stang as a past tense of sting.
7. wasps
21. lee ch es
"verb (used with object), stung or (Obsolete) stang; stung; sting. · ing. to prick or wound with a sharp-pointed..."
How do you come to 'wasps' please Claire? Can't see how it connects to the clue.
no ure right I'm on the wrong thread sorry
Also, as a northener, I'm sure I've said 'Oh, that stang!' when say, a cricket ball hits the tips of your fingers, or when belted by your dad.
I'd suggest your setter doesn't know how to spell leech in this context especially as leaches is also a valid word (which makes one wonder what they expect as the right answer!)
You’re a bit quick asking questions! This has only been out for a couple of days.
Can you help me with this last one please?
10) AGerman factory surrounds chaotic pasty.(9) Many thanks for any help.x
@Georgiesmum, I can't completely parse it but I think that the answer is
MILLIPEDE
German = D(eutschland), factory =MILL and pasty = PIE
chaotic = anagram
MILLIPEDEis an anagram of D+MILL+PIE (plus an extra E from somewhere)
Thank you so much jj109, much appreciated.x
Quiz now complete and I can sleep again now! Many thanks
