How many of you will be posting Christmas cards to relatives and friends this year? I've decided that I would rather donate the money to a charity than give it to the Royal Mail.

First Class stamp 65p and Second Class 56p.
Large First Class letter/card 98p and a large Second Class letter/card 76p.

I may sound rather bah humbug but it just seems ridiculous to me that you can buy a pack of cards for £1 but posting them is extortionate.

Will still give to close family and a few close friends but most will be hand delivered rather than posted apart from those for abroad.

I'll be doing the folks in other countries and far away but the rest will be hand delivered. Not sure where I'll be at Christmas though x
Just a few for elderly relatives who actually appreciate getting a card. Rest will be hand delivered
I will still post to relatives and friends I hardly ever see. The rest by hand. Considering how far and how quickly they get delivered I think postage cost is still quite fair.
I already spend a fortune on stamps and buy in bulk, but I now try to send as few as possible by post and subscribe to a lovely Ecard site and send those to family a distance away and overseas.

I hand make some for close family that I'll see and hand deliver to near neighbours.
I send cards to friends and family who don't have email addresses. Some years ago I found a site that does lovely animated cards for all occasions so I send those if I can and hand deliver the rest.
I make my cards then send perhaps six by post.....some are hand delivered but most go into the Scout delivery box.....30p per card and all proceeds to the Scouts....x
I just send a few to people I won't see.

I hand deliver ones to my neighbours.
I will post 20-30 2nd class. Its only once a year.
>>> posting them is extortionate

Really? I regard 56p to take something hundreds of miles for me amazingly good value!

I don't have many cards to send but I certainly don't begrudge the cost of sending them.
Agree that it is all complete ballsh1t, but when you’re old it’s a good way of saying “I’m still above ground!”
^^ indeed. You might think about sending a few cards this year Maggie, just to the people you rarely see and explaining that you will be giving the money to charity next year. Otherwise they might worry about not having heard from you.
you're not "giving" it to the Royal Mail, you're paying them to deliver it for you. If you can do it cheaper, go ahead. You may be able to if it's all in the same town, but how much do you think it should cost to send a card hundreds of miles to the other end of the country?

None of us do cards, there are so many other ways of keeping in touch, why would you? absolute rip off imo.
Moonpig for the US. 2nd for those of distance. Rest hand delivered by foot. I’ll get me coat.
Agreed, Maggie. Tell your older friends what you’re up to, otherwise they’ll worry that you’ve passed away or even died.
I only send 20 cards max and probably only 12 or so of those get posted. the rest are sent along with a gift or hand delivered. I don't begrudge the cost.
It's the pack of Xmas cards for just £1 I'd be querying. Getting something delivered anywhere in the country for
Less than !
£1 seems reasonable.
I send about 60 to 70 cards. I love writing them and love receiving them. It may cost overall a £1 to send or receive and think it is a small price to say "Hey I am thinking if you " I start buying 10 a month from July so don't have to pay out all at once.
I decided several years ago that the whole thing was getting silly, so stopped sending any at all. I told all my friends and they were fine about it. Some of them insist on sending me a card though, although I have asked them not to. I donate to charity, it's quite a large amount when you think I was sending 150 cards each year! I feel we have all been brainwashed into this 'Christmas thing'. I appreciate that a lot of you may think me awful, but I'm in touch with every one I care about through the year.
