looks as if you are correct . . . The player breaks and all 15 reds are potted (not likely but theoretically possible): 15 points He takes one yellow with these reds: 17 points He pots yellow, green, brown, blue and pink: 37 points He then pots the black but goes in off with the white so the black does not count! Total score: 37 points

I think that's too low. Where'd you get 37 from?

I think it would be just about plausible to pot all 15 reds on the first shot (although I don't quite know how...), follows by a yellow, then all the colours, for a maximum total clearance of 27+2+15 = 44.

Are you maybe thinking about a foul on the last ball?
15 Reds + 15 Yellows + the colours = 72?
72 I make it

Can't wait to see that shot Jim!!!
I make it 72
I obviously don't think 'outside-the-box' enough
Well, quite!

I don't think fouling on the black would make it count as a true clearance -- the foul making the last shot invalid, and, strictly speaking, the black would be respotted (before the frame ends), so I don't feel that's really a clearance.
For fun when you're bored work out if it's geometrically possible to pot all 15 balls in one shot :-)
Yes... fun... :)

Could a player not end up in minus figures?

Where's my best answer?
Nope. Points are never lost in snooker.
I think you've touched on that, sorry.
Did you knock that up yourself!! Makes no sense at all :-) We do mean from the starting triangle set-up you know...
Yeah, I figured it was better to assume a few shots had been played first then I could put the reds anywhere.

Just a bit of fun anyway. Especially in light of the "just repeat what OP said" BA...

i did count the foul on the black as following through and also potting the white.
