I always thought it was White. White light can be split down into all other colours, and is therefore the "purest" colour. Black is what is left when no colour is present, and is not a colour. At least that was what I learned at school ages and ages ago!

Hue is the term which describes a dimension of colour or its purest form; it essentially refers to a colour having full saturation.
