3. 1/4 + 1/x = 3/8
To get rid of the fractions, multiply both sides of the equation by the LCM (8x)
(8x)/4 + (8x) / x = (3*8x) / 8
Simplify each term
2x + 8 = 3x
Subtract 2x from both sides
8 = x
Even simpler
subtract 1/4 from both sides
1/x = 1/8
x = 8
2. 2x² + 5x + 2
if 4. is x + (2/x) = x - (4/x) + 4

then multiply everything by x ... and simplify ...x= -6

or if qu is (x+4) / (x+2) etc then cross multiply and simplify
