Can anyone help me with this - I got so far and then gave up.....

Mr Khan, Mr Thomas and Mr Rowntree are the host, receptionist and security guard (not necessarily in that order) waiting in reception when three guests, coincidentally Mrs Khan, Mrs Thomas and Mrs Rowntree, arrive for appointments.

Mrs Rowntree lives in Liverpool.

The receptionist lives halfway between Liverpool and Shenley.

Mrs Thomas’s salary is £15, 620.

Mr Khan can beat the security guard at ping pong.

The receptionist’s nearest neighbour (one of the guests) earns exactly three times as much as receptionist.

The receptionists namesake lives in Shenley.

What is the surname of the host?

1)Mr Khan 2) Mr Thomas 3) Mr Rowntree 4) Can’t tell

This is one of those logic puzzle where you need to draw a grid showing all the intersecting possibilities and you can slowly eliminate all the impossible connections from the clues.

For a start we know Mr Kahn is not the security guard
For example
Mrs Rowntree lives in Liverpool so she can't be married to the receptionist who lives halfway between Liverpool and Shenley. (Assuming the married couples live together)

Ah rite I see - I'll try that
I don't think they can be married couples who live together though, Calibax. For example the Receptionist lives halfway between Liverppol and Shenly whereas his namesake (his wife presumably) lives in Shenley
^scratch that, I think the names are coincidental and they're not married couples.
But I hope you get the idea of what to do.
^ Thanks FF :o)

Is the answer Mr Rowntree?
This is the type of grid that you need

I get Mr Khan
Oops was looking at the wrong line on my grid - I meant to type Mr Thomas

I get Mr Khan is the host, mr Thomas is the receptionist, and Mr Rowntre is the security guard
1. Mr Khan is not the security guard as he can beat him at ping pong

2. Mrs Thomas's salary does not divide exactly by 3, therefore she is not the nearest neighbour to the receptionist and therefore either lives in Liverpool or Shenly (not halfway)
Mrs Rowntree lives in Liverpool, therefore Mrs Thomas lives in Shenley.
The receptionists, namesake lives in Shenley
Therefore Mr Thomas is the receptionist
3. As we know that Mr Thomas is the receptionist and Mr Khan beat the security guard at ping pong it means that Mr Khan must be the host and Mr Rowntree must be the security guard.

Mr Khan is the host
