I am stuck on one question in this Quiz. It is Question 2 in the History Section:
Name the first battle in the Jacobite Rising. (unfortunately no number of letters given). I have googled but found the sites very confusing.
Can anyone help please?
Thank you.
The Battle of Prestonpans was the first significant conflict in the Jacobite Rising of 1745. ... The Jacobite army loyal to James Francis Edward Stuart and led by his son Charles Edward Stuart defeated the government army loyal to the Hanoverian George II led by Sir John Cope.
Battle of Prestonpans
The Battle of Killiecrankie (Gaelic: Blàr Choille Chnagaidh) was fought between Highland Scottish clans supporting King James II and VII and troops supporting King William of Orange on 27 July 1689, during the first Jacobite uprising.
I would say Emmie has the right one.
There were the early (1689) skirmishes/battles as Danny points out; but no significant effect on British monarchy.
There was the Rising of 1715; but again no real effect.
The Rising of 1745 is the one that changed the monarchy and the one that all historians go on about.
So my money is on Prestonpans
Loup Hill:This battle was part of the first Jacobite rising, in which those loyal to James VII/II hoped to instigate counter-revolution and drive William of Orange from the throne. The ‘battle’ was really just a skirmish, and today it is more or less forgotten,
