shaley - where is the setter based - it could help.
The setterinformed me that the single letter is an article and not part of the surname.
A Friend?
That information would have been nice posted here - sent mine in with a wild guess.
A Basset?
It would certainly have saved a lot of headaches.
a barker?
Yes, I hadn't seen that additional info. i'd assumed it was an O' name like O'Barker
A canine
Mr & Mrs Canine?

I just think it's crazy using that tactic on a solitary clue in a quiz and not bracketing the article.
Yes- it seems odd that it wasnt just given as 6, whether it was Basset, Barker, Shaggy...
I really can't see the need for the 'a' at all.
It has caused a lot of confusion where it's been asked before.
On a previous post I suggested O'Friend which is a chain of food outlets in Scotland but I didn't know if it was a trade or surname - that was my reason for asking where the setter was based.

Thank You all For the information
I simply asked on the email address given.
Not exactly a fair question when considering all the others and yes the additional information would have been useful. I can't remember what I put in the end but was sent in a while ago now.
